Dr. Christine Cutucache, Director of the Unostem Trail Center, answers the question, “What progress has been made in nurturing STEM talent in Nebraska?”

Cut across the cache

Cutucache has grown from an oncological immunologist to a natural scientist. During her tenure, she raised $ 10.9 million in off-campus funding, published 34 peer-reviewed papers on her research, and was selected as a Fulbright Fellow (2020). She has given more than 50 presentations worldwide, most of which included research students as co-authors or co-moderators. Her laboratory studies both tumor immunology (especially tumor-induced immunosuppression in B-cell and T-cell leukemias and lymphomas) as well as disciplinary training and research (so-called “DBER” or scientific training). .. She is interested in student-centered research practices to improve learning outcomes, such as critical thinking and metacognition.
