Celebrating Pride Month at the UN | News – Omaha, Nebraska

June is Pride Month, celebrating the past and present stories, lives and contributions of LGBTQIA2S + Mavericks and providing support and resources to those in need of current and future help.

In June 1969, a colored trans woman rioted against police atrocities at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. After years of persistent harassment, the riots began to combat the trance and strange violence that resulted from frequent police raids in the LGBTQIA2S + room.

Other queer and transgender riots in response to police atrocities have been recorded, but the riot at the Stonewall Inn cleared Christopher Street (the location of the Stonewall Inn) in New York City the year after the incident. We held a memorial parade called Day. This is the birth of the modern pride parade.

Learn about the history of the UN, which supports and praises the voice of queers, and how you can be proud of that pride.

There is more than one way to be “proud”. It could be a private coming out experience, such as walking down a street to show off your skin color or working against queer or transgender injustice and Sexuality Resource Center wanted to share some ways the UN LGBTQIA2s + community celebrated and hopefully less can be isolated. If you are interested in LGBTQIA2S + activities, you should apply for the Queer and Trans Service (QTS, pronounced “cuties”). Apply by the end of June.
