Emily Kinney is back with a 2018 sequel to Oh Jonathan, and with The Supporting Character she wants to dispel the notion that she’s just an actor making music on the side. In fact, much of the album is about how her acting career shaped her experience.

But before the new album is released on April 9th, Kinney (who many may recognize as Beth Greene from The Walking Dead) treats fans with a selection of new singles as a preview of what’s to come, and SPIN has an exclusive premiere of the Album opening track that you can hear right now.

More from SPIN:

“I wrote ‘Omaha Hotel’ right after my uncle’s funeral in Columbus, Nebraska,” Kinney told SPIN. “I would much rather have gone home to attend a wedding or the arrival of a new baby, but honestly, I missed most of these events. When I first moved to NYC, I didn’t often have the money to go back to Nebraska – and when I started getting big acting jobs, I didn’t have the time. Ben Greenspan [the song’s producer] and I decided that this song should open the album as it builds up the rest of the record and the rest of the songs that really all explore the life and experiences I’ve had through an actor’s lens. I was drawn to being an artist, spending time in big cities, and living a more temporary lifestyle – very different from the small-town farming communities where I grew up. I don’t regret it, but I know I am missing out on other important things. “
