Food Notes: Wood Brings a “French Flair” to Countryside Village | Omaha Dines

The World-Herald is proud to announce its 2017 Food Prowl categories. After much debate and around 50 ideas submitted by readers via email, Twitter and Facebook, the four Food Prowl categories will be the best donut in town, their best gyro, their best veggie burger and their best Moscow Mule- Track cocktail.

World-Herald’s food critic Sarah Baker Hansen and the tasting teams she has put together complete the food prowls by making 10 or more stops in locations around town looking for the best examples of specific foods in different categories .

This year’s first foray will come out in spring. To nominate a place that you think we should visit in one of the four categories, email Sarah Baker Hansen at [email protected]

The native of Omaha helps the US get gold at Bocuse d’Or

For the first time the United States won the gold medal at the Bocuse d’Or – the Olympic Games of the Food World – and an Omaha native was on the US team.

Harrison Turone, who grew up in Omaha and attended Central High, is only 21 years old.

Chef Mathew Peters and Turone, the commissioner or junior chef, both work at Per Se, Thomas Keller’s New York restaurant.
