Grandmother indicted in death of Omaha toddler

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Omaha police say the grandmother of a child who died in a hospital last October was arrested when he died.

Police announced in a press release on Friday that 47-year-old Carmella Star from Omaha had been booked and charged with negligent child abuse, which resulted in the death of 20-month-old Asann Star. Police say the boy was in his grandmother’s care on October 7th when he was found unresponsive and taken to an Omaha Hospital where he died.

The police did not say what caused the boy’s death and the investigation is ongoing.
