Hotel check: ALSO Hotel Omaha Downtown

WHERE IS IT? Downtown, the hotel is convenient to office buildings, the Old Market shopping and dining district, and TD Ameritrade Park. Many rooms offer great views of the downtown skyline. A free shuttle takes you to the airport and anywhere within a five kilometer radius of the hotel.

How is it? ALSO is unique in its focus on wellbeing and life balance for travelers. After doing a lot of research, IHG wanted to create a brand that focused on four pillars: stay active, eat well, rest healthy, stay productive. Everything in the hotel is based on these principles. Rooms have fitness equipment for those who don’t have time for a full workout in the gym (there’s an impressive gym here, too), and plush bedding with soft and firm pillows. Improved internet speeds and public work areas are designed to help guests achieve maximum productivity during their stay. The lobby also has table tennis, games, and a great bar, as well as a take away restaurant that focuses on healthy light snacks when it’s time to relax. Clever quotes line the walls throughout the hotel in place of more traditional works of art that give the design a light-hearted feel.

ROOM EQUIPMENT In a cheeky nod to the brand name, there are no odd rooms in the hotel. All have high ceilings and large king-size beds with bed sockets and eucalyptus linens. Blackout curtains on the windows are another must-have for sound quiet. Each floor has an ice and water station. The rooms have a reusable water bottle to take with you. I appreciate that Keurig coffeemakers and refrigerators are in all rooms and a microwave is available in the lobby. My room had two desks (including one in a corner with a view of the Omaha skyline) and a stand-up work option. The hallmark of the room (alongside a huge TV and great wireless internet) is the exercise equipment, including hygienic yoga mats, core-strengthening equipment like balance balls, resistance bands, and in many rooms an exercise bike. This is ideal for those who prefer the privacy of an in-room workout. Training videos are also available on the TV system. Bathrooms have rainfall showers, Beekman 1801 toiletries, and bright mirrors.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS Cork & Kale is the health conscious tapas style cafe in the lobby. It’s a grab-and-go concept and drinks and snacks are also offered. During the evenings, a full bar with craft cocktails and local draft beer is a popular stop before or after visiting the Old Market for great restaurants.

LEISURE FACILITIES One level above the lobby is an impressive fitness room. Rather than focusing on one brand of equipment, it features the best machines from every major brand with a wide selection of free weights and cardio machines. Guests seem to like that the gym is visible from the lobby, which is a reminder for travelers the wellness focus of EVEN. There’s also a separate room with spin bikes and video instruction on-demand. An indoor pool is particularly popular with families.

BUSINESS AND MEETING OPPORTUNITIES Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel. There are sockets next to every seat in the lobby. Several meeting rooms can accommodate small to medium-sized groups.

JUDGMENT At a time when people work remotely while balancing life at home and sometimes school at home, the EVEN brand shines with a focus on all the things you want to stay productive and healthy. Add IHG Rewards Club points to the mix and it’s a winner.
