Jasmine Harris declares her candidacy for Mayor of Omaha

There is another contender who brings his name to the running for the next mayor of Omaha.

Jasmine Harris, born and raised in Omaha, holds a Masters degree in Public Health. On Tuesday morning, she told 6 News that her background prepared her for today’s challenges.

“People today struggle with things that I experienced 15 to 20 years ago. We have Omahans with and without crime stories who are under or unemployed, ”she said. “Safe and affordable living is being replaced by expensive apartments that nobody can afford. And our public transport still doesn’t get people where they need to go – especially not to work. ”

According to Harris’ website, as mayor, she will prioritize city services, investing in Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) neighborhoods and businesses, keeping young professionals in Omaha, community police reform and public health.

The primary elections for the city of Omaha will take place in April. The Mayor of Omaha, Jean Stothert, is seeking a third term. You can find out more about Jasmine here.
