Mark Gudgel is operating for Mayor of Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Local schoolteacher Mark Gudgel announced today that he is running for mayor.

According to a press release, his focus will be on prioritizing young people, small businesses and infrastructure across the city.

“We must do everything in our power to make Omaha the city our kids want to call home,” Gudgel said in the press release.

His release also describes his experience in the civil service: “His mayoral campaign emphasizes his role as a civil servant as an ideal complement to the office of mayor. Gudgel is a 17-year-old public school veteran who has taught English and coached cross country and women’s basketball at Omaha North High Magnet School for the past six years. Previously, Gudgel founded and served as the executive director of the Institute for Human Rights of Educators and Assisted Teachers in Rwanda for six years as the nation continued to recover from genocide. He holds a PhD in character education and has taught Wesleyan’s M.Ed. as an associate professor in Nebraska. Program.”
