Minnesota-Duluth beat Denver 4-1 at the NCHC pod in Omaha – The Denver Post
The Denver Pioneers never led and fell 4-1 on Saturday at the pod of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference in Omaha, Neb, against two-time NCAA defending champions Minnesota-Duluth.
DU, who came into the game with two wins after losing the first three games of the season, has now lost five times in a row to the Bulldogs, who defeated the Pioneers 2-1 in both teams’ season opener on December 2nd. UMD defeated DU 3: 0: 1 last season.
UMD (5-0-1) scored two power play goals, the latter with a two-man advantage in the third half and a 4-1 win. DU’s second penalty in that order was a bank minor for unsportsmanlike conduct.
DU newcomer Connor Caponi scored his first career goal at 8:52 in the first half to end the game 1-1. But the Bulldogs took the lead again less than three minutes later, and so it was in the third period.
UMD went 3-1 only 1:32 of the last frame when Jesse Jacques completed a 2-on-1 onslaught with his second goal of the season.
Denver (2-4) will face Western Michigan at the Baxter Arena on Tuesday.
