Nearly 5 dozen Omaha youth inmates moved when the heat went out

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – State prison officials say nearly five dozen juvenile offenders at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility in Omaha were relocated when the facility’s heat failed amid arctic temperatures.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said in a press release that 59 offenders were taken to the medium security Omaha Correctional Center, which houses adult men, on Sunday.

Officials said the youths were kept in a separate area from the adult offenders and will be returned once repairs are made to the youth facility’s broken boilers.
