Nebraska’s Lincoln, Omaha, Iowa’s Cedar Rapids have high rates of family education

NEBRASKA / IOWA – A new study shows Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, are popular places to raise families.

The Wallet Hub personal finance website rated more than 182 cities for family fun, health and safety, education and childcare, and affordability. It included the 150 most populous US cities, plus at least two of the most populous cities in each state.

Lincoln was ranked 11th on the list while Omaha was ranked 19th. Both cities ranked high in terms of affordability. Cedar Rapids ranked 28th overall and was also rated particularly high for affordability. Des Moines was in the middle of the field and finished in 80th place.

Some of the focus areas of the study were air quality, water quality, quality of the school system, high school graduation rate, cost of living and affordability of housing; plus playgrounds, ice rinks, skate parks, bike rentals and mini golf courses per capita.

The study had some rankings that might raise some eyebrows. Las Vegas was voted # 2 nationwide in the Family Fun category. Another WalletHub study rated Las Vegas as “America’s Most Sinful City”.
