Omaha girl is celebrating her 104th birthday
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha woman celebrates an important milestone!
Rose Regner turns 104 today.
However, it was difficult to find a way to celebrate such a big day in a pandemic.
Of all of Rose Regner’s birthdays, this one looks very different.
It’s not her first global pandemic, but it’s the first she celebrated through a window with her family.
“104! A lot of people don’t make it, ”says Rose’s granddaughter Marlise Dishaw.
Brookestone Village has a qualified nursing home and rehabilitation, party, and virtual bingo match with Rose’s 101 year old friend.
“She played bingo and won four times. The staff was really, really wonderful, ”says Mary Schon, Rose’s daughter
COVID-19 restrictions prevent Rose’s daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter from being in the same room with her today.
It’s been months since they hugged her.
With that said, there are smiles everywhere as Rose holds up a phone to chat with her family.
“Her mood is upbeat, she smiles. She looks really good. “”
And while they couldn’t spend the whole day with her, those who looked after Rose made sure the whole day went smoothly.
There were many surprises – like a huge display in front of your window!
“She has balloons and we decorated her with Christmas lights, trees and flowers. She definitely doesn’t like it when people stand up for her so we reassured her that it is because everyone loves her! “Says Sarah Bird, Brookestone Village.
Rose says there’s a key to making it to 104.
“She says you don’t need all that food, all of these big meals. She only says soup. It’s all she eats! “
