Omaha homicide suspect killed in tried arrest in Atlanta

A man wanted for an Omaha murder is dead after an attempted arrest in Atlanta, Georgia.

Omaha police say the United States Marshall Service in Omaha has confirmed that 18-year-old Jaquan Haynes was shot dead by law enforcement while trying to serve a murder warrant on Tuesday. Investigators say while serving the warrant in an Atlanta home, gunshots were exchanged between law enforcement and Haynes, who was beaten and killed.

Haynes was wanted in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Nomi Herrera. On October 29th, Omaha police were called to the 33rd and Weber area about a personal injury accident. When the officers arrived, they found Herrera, who was suffering from a gunshot wound behind the wheel of the vehicle. Herrera succumbed to her injuries on October 30th.

On November 6, Omaha police said they had arrested a 15-year-old girl for first degree murder related to Herrera’s death. On the same day, an arrest warrant for Jaquan Haynes was issued.
