Omaha is hosting the USA Hockey High School National Championships

(Omaha, NE) – Omaha will host the USA Hockey High School National Championships in April.

From April 15 to 19, Omaha will bring together the best boys and girls’ hockey teams from around the country to compete in the USA Hockey High School national championships. The event is hosted by the Omaha Junior Lancers high school ice hockey team and approved by USA Hockey, the governing body for all amateur hockey players in America.

The games are played in the Ralston Arena and the Baxter Arena. The tournament was originally scheduled for March 18-22, but COVID-19 issues forced the move to mid-April.

Tournament Director Michael Hughes says: “With the Nationals 2020 tournament canceled due to COVID-19 and Omaha’s central location, we expect a large number of teams eager to return to USA Hockey’s marquee season-end . Almost 800 players, accompanied by parents, coaches, fans and on-ice officials, will have an impact on the local economy during the five-day event. “

The tournament committee expects up to 32 boys ‘and 8 girls’ teams. Boys teams are divided into two divisions. Teams with players from the same school count as Division I. Teams made up of players from multiple schools compete in Division II. The girls’ teams are divided into two groups depending on the level of play.

Suitable teams are the national champions in their respective member organizations. USA Hockey divides the country into 12 districts, which are further divided into affiliated companies. Each state within a member has the option to send its best high school team to the national tournament.

The Omaha Junior Lancers will host an automatic berth for the championship.
