Omaha Mayor makes public appearances for the first time since his husband’s death
(Omaha, NE) – A week and a half after her husband’s death, Omaha’s Mayor Jean Stothert made his first public appearance on Tuesday.
In her first public appearance since the death of Dr. Joe Stothert on March 5 gave Mayor Stothert a glimpse into his death before discussing her plans to get back to work.
“Lately Joe had started to change. Our family noticed and his work family noticed. Last year had been very difficult for Joe, ”said the mayor. “The questions we have are never fully answered, we know that and we accept it. We also know that mental health problems and depression are common and that those who work in health care are at higher risk. “
Stothert was accompanied on the podium by her daughter and son. “I will resume my duties as mayor this week and ask for your encouragement and blessings,” she said.
The mayor said that not only will she be returning to her mayoral duties this week, but will also start her re-election campaign this week. According to Stothert, outreach and commercials will be released from Wednesday. The mayor stopped her re-election campaign after Joe’s death.
Dr. Stothert was found dead in the family home on Friday March 5th. The funeral services were held privately, but instead of flowers, the public was asked to honor Dr. Stothert’s commitment to public safety.
