Omaha offers pre-approved deck and garage plans for homeowners

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Homeowners in town now have a new permit option for planning deck and garage construction projects.

The Omaha City Planning Department has five submitted deck plans and two freestanding garage plans that conform to the code and include a guide to control the process and other options. The original plans will continue to be reviewed as part of the normal process, which can take up to four to six weeks to approve.

The labor and material costs determine how the planning department determines the approval costs.

“We are always looking for ways to improve customer service,” said Mayor Jean Stothert in a press release on Tuesday. “We strive to make every interaction with the city government a good experience. This quick approval process is a great example of responsive customer service. “

The city issued 746 deck building permits and 173 free-standing garage permits in 2020.
