Omaha parents of slain teenagers seek answers
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An Omaha couple search for answers after their daughter is shot dead while police continue their search for the suspect.
“I don’t know how to get by without my baby. My baby, ”said Rudy Herrera.
“She’s getting insane and she’s gone – her angel is still here, but she’s no longer with us,” said Rose Herrera.
Just a day after Rudy and Rose got the news they were afraid of, they hold each other tight.
“They told us that they found my daughter on the 33rd. She was shot in the back of the head, ”said Rose.
According to the Omaha Police Department report, officers responded to an accident on 33rd and Weber Streets at 8 p.m. Thursday
There they found 19-year-old Nomi Herrera with a gunshot wound on the back of the head.
“We want justice for our daughter. This is a pointless act. No teenager should have to worry about driving in this city. It’s not right, ”said Rudy.
Nomi’s mother Rose lost her own mother to a murder a few years ago and her father to COVID-19 in July.
The loss of the youngest of the couple’s five couples is almost too great for them to bear.
Rose said the police have a surveillance tape and are looking for a four-door silver or gray car – but no one is in custody at the time.
“We just want help finding out who did this to my baby,” said Rose.
Until then – Rose and Rudy will depend on their family – and remember their baby, whose life has been cut short.
The family set up a gofundme to pay medical and funeral expenses.
If anyone has any information about what happened, they will be asked to call Crime Stoppers at (402) 444-7867.
