Omaha police arrest a suspect after shooting near Benson

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha police arrested a suspect after a shooting on Thursday afternoon southwest of 72nd Street and West Maple Road.

OPD reported Thursday evening that Hairo Ogando, 19, was arrested “without incident” after a search. He was admitted to Douglas County Corrections for first degree assault and use of a gun to commit a crime.

An OPD officer at the scene told 6 News that the police had been called at 1:42 pm at an address near 72nd and Corby Streets. One person was taken from the Code 3 crime scene to Nebraska Medicine. The police reported Thursday evening that the 46-year-old victim had no life-threatening wounds.

The suspect escaped from the scene and the officers continued their search until the afternoon.

Later on Thursday afternoon, police said they had taken a suspect into custody after being arrested at a West Omaha Panera Bread near 120th Street and West Dodge Road.

6 News saw police officers searching a silver Dodge Avenger in the Costco parking lot and pulling a gun from the trunk.
