Omaha subway amid construction job growth, decline

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – An organization tracking employment in the construction industry says 57% of major cities in the country saw job cuts over the past year. The Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area was right in the middle of it all.

The Associated General Contractors of America said that from March 2020 to March 2021, Omaha dropped 30,100 construction jobs to 29,600, a 2% decrease.

That put the Omaha subway at 175th place in the nation out of 358 subway areas.

The hardest hit was Odessa, Texas, where construction jobs fell 39%. Sierra-Vista and Douglas, Arizona, ranked best, with jobs increasing 35%.
