Omaha Symphony Music Director honored by the Omaha Press Club

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – Thomas Wilkins, music director of the Omaha Symphony since 2005, was honored on Monday as the 164th “Face on the Barroom Floor” of the Omaha Press Club.

On June 12th, Wilkins will conduct his last concert with the Omaha Symphony.

The Wilkins caricature was drawn by Omaha artist Wayne Sealy, who has been drawing for the Omaha Press Club since 2019.

“I drew Thomas in his formal attire, but with a few tweaks. He has a golf club in his hand because he loves to play golf. He’s wearing a BBQ apron with barbecue utensils in his jacket pocket,” said Sealy. “On the left you can see the backdrop of the Holland Center and the Hollywood Bowl – two of his favorite places to direct. Last but not least, he’s surrounded by many of the awards he’s received over the years – and these are just a few of them. “

Ankush Kumar Bahl will succeed Wilkins as Music Director of the Omaha Symphony.
