One dead and two injured when shooting in front of the Omaha Bar
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Police are investigating a shootout outside Moe and Curly’s pub early Sunday.
Officials in the 12th Street and Capitol Avenue area heard gunshots at 1:40 a.m. and responded to a shooting report on 10th Street and Capitol Avenue that they found injured.
Police said they believed a person fired shots during a fight near the location. A 24 year old and a 31 year old were both hit; The injuries are not considered to be life threatening.
Suaquel Hogan, 21, was hit by a car on Capitol Ave and pronounced dead in hospital. Another person also had minor injuries unrelated to the shooting.
All of the injured were taken to the Nebraska Medical Center.
The guests were still going through everything they’d seen overnight and owed a bartender to alerting others. Two friends told 6 News they were in the front of the building and heard the gunshots, but said there was a lot of excitement inside.
Chelsee Mortensen and Patricia Carlson said they would celebrate a family birthday together at Moe and Curly. They say the last call kept them inside for another round to avoid the argument outside.
Carlson said she saw an injured bartender step outside to return to the bar to alert the patrons.
“Even after he was shot when he walked in, he said to everyone, ‘Turn off the music. Go down. Call the police. “I was shot dead jumping into the kitchen,” Carlson said. “Who thinks they are doing this?”
Patricia says she is a regular and knows the staff very well. She tried to reach this bartender to check in today but didn’t hear about it.
