The lake is cleaned up at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, along with other partners, are hosting four free events to clean up the lake.

The first cleanup took place in Benson Park on Saturday. By showing up, the volunteers learned how to maintain a healthy freshwater ecosystem and keep their backyards clean.

“We have turtles, we have birds that get through, we have migratory birds that come through, and we also use these water systems,” said Pam Eby, manager of the outdoor education program at Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. “It’s a great way to show Nebraskans that we want fresh water too, that we can go out there and see nature and keep our nature clean. We have a lot of good places to go out.”

The next cleanup will take place on June 19th.
