The Mayor of Omaha stops re-election activities after his husband’s death

(Omaha, NE) – Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert halts re-election campaigns after her husband dies.

Dr. Joe Stothert was found dead outside the couple’s southwest Omaha home on Friday. Now, after Joe’s death, the campaign tells the mayor that she is temporarily pausing all campaign activity.

The mayor’s office made the following statement on Monday:

“Out of respect for the life and legacy of Dr. Joe Stothert and to properly honor his memory, Jean Stothert’s campaign for the mayor has temporarily suspended all public contacts and activities.”

Stothert officially stood for re-election in January. Her campaign had planned to start broadcasting television commercials on Monday.
