The Omaha Enterprise Listing web site launches

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Keep Local Alive Omaha Group makes it easy to find locally owned businesses in our area by creating an online interactive directory.

It kicked off today at Mangelsen and was received with great enthusiasm by local businesses and Keep Local Alive co-founder Bobby Johnson.

“Where are they? How do I find them? And who really is a locally owned company? With that in mind, we decided to develop this directory,” said Johnson.

There are currently over 300 verified local businesses on the mobile-friendly website.

The directory uses your location to find a business near you that meets your needs.

“You can leaf through; You can find companies. You can go all the way down if you are looking for restaurants, coffee or stores when you want to shop, ”explained Johnson as he demonstrated the website.

Johnson says they filter every business to make sure it is local so that most of the money earned stays in our community.

Michael Mitilier and James Friedman own the Brownie Bar in downtown Omaha, which opened last November and has had a tough first year.

“Strange. Very strange year to open a business,” said Mitilier.

While they were able to adapt their business to the pandemic restrictions, they both owe their ability to stay open to Keep Local Alive.

“It’s a great way to promote local businesses,” Friedman said. “When people want to help local businesses, they want to help Omaha-based companies, not national chains.”

Mangelsen’s, an Omaha staple that turns 60 in the spring, is also on the directory.

Owner David Mangelsen hopes this will inspire people to visit a place they may not have had before to do locally owned businesses long after the pandemic.

“The local business is really important to keep supporting them as they are the mainstay, backbone of Omaha and every other place,” said Mangelsen.

Other local businesses that wish to be added to the directory should send an SMS (lovelocal) to (402) 313-4434.
