The Omaha RiverFront revitalization plan is on schedule

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Gene Leahy Mall, Lewis & Clark Landing, and Heartland of America Park are currently under construction on the RiverFront revitalization plan.

The groundbreaking took place almost two years ago. Most of the revitalization is expected to be completed in the next year.

At Gene Leahy Mall, basic work on the pavilion, water features and playgrounds has been completed. It took 9,300 dump truck loads to replenish the lagoon, which was now at street level.

Kristyna Engdahl, Communications Director at MECA, said: “At this point, all construction times are on schedule. Of course, COVID only temporarily slowed the process down here, but we were really able to continue this work as the work is done outdoors. Much of this work can be done individually, the workers here can distance themselves socially. “

In the Heartland of America Park, important underground infrastructures and a multi-month ground settlement were installed. Demolition work is taking place at Lewis & Clark Landing and has space for a sand volleyball court, park, and more.

“I think this year is going to be really important to this project. Even in the spring and summer, you can see things like trees and landscaping. So it looks less like a dirt field. And even in the coming months it will look more like a park, ”said Engdahl.

All three construction sites are on schedule.
