Vacation competitions within the Omaha space are adapting to COVID-19 precautions
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Schools and churches are scaling down their big achievements this Christmas season due to the coronavirus, but some are still finding a way to celebrate.
“I know that many churches have canceled their Christmas programs completely,” said Kolterman.
Anna Kolterman is the director of liturgy and worship at St. Patrick’s Church in Elkhorn. She says things will be different for Church vacation programs this year.
“The children’s program is one of the highlights of Christmas and we will not have this children’s singing program like we normally do. We’re going to have 50 or more children singing and more than that in our school, so we can’t do that this year. “
Anna says the church is finding creative ways to hold some celebrations without putting anyone at risk.
“We usually have a concert and we won’t be able to have that in our church this year, but we’ll do the concert anyway, it will be on video and our parishioners will have access to it,” said Kolterman.
Anna says families will provide much of the music for this year’s Christmas program … smaller groups that can be socially distant. There are also plans for a live crib on December 20th.
“Families can drive around our campus and stop at various stations that tell the story of the trip to Bethlehem for live Christmas carols at the event,” said Kolterman. “Parents like to go to school and we want that, but we can’t do that right now, so we have to do it remotely.”
Millard School District and other counties are also making adjustments to allow certain types of holiday observations, some for the children and some for the parents. There are many family activities on school websites.
“It’s different, but it works, it still gives parents a window into the schools,” said Kleeman.
Rebecca Kleeman says several Billard teachers are teaming up tonight to deliver online readings for the kids.
Many concerts are recorded at the school and parents can also access them online.
