Washington County MP fires a gun while being arrested in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A MP fired a shot during the arrest of a Washington County woman in Omaha on Monday, authorities said in multiple reports following the incident.

Omaha police said Monday that a gun was fired during the arrest of a woman wanted on multiple arrest warrants. She was a passenger in a white truck driven by a man who was also arrested Monday after trying to escape from the scene.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office report on Tuesday said a MP shot a vehicle after the driver started as MPs got out of their vehicle.

“(He) accelerated quickly, made a U-turn and tried to escape from the scene,” said the sheriff’s press release.

MEPs first made contact with the woman at around 4 p.m. on Monday near Road 11 and Locust, the state reports. The vehicle was totaled near 12th and Cuming Streets, according to the OPD release states.

The couple then walked and were arrested after brief persecution, the authorities said.

No one was injured during the encounter, according to the OPD press release. Omaha Police and the Metro Fugitive Task Force assisted with the arrest.

“The alternate has been put on administrative leave pending an internal review, which is the standard protocol,” the Washington County press release said.
